September 3, 2013 Canoe Neck to Mattawoman Creek

An early start to the day...seas were smooth as we left anchorage, but then it was windy most of the day - drove from the helm as a result.

Passed this point on St. Clements Island...this is where New World settlers first "planted" their feet on what was to become Maryland soil.  The beautiful cross 'marks the spot' of the first landing.

A waterman boat motoring for crab pots.  No, we haven't had any Maryland crab cakes yet, but are on a quest to find the best!

A tough job, but somebody has to do it...Captain Ron steers the ship with his 'remote control'.

Almost looks like the Lambton (Ontario) Power Plant, but with stripes...doesn't it?  But views from the great and historical Potomac.

Almost looks like the Blue Water Bridge too...doesn't it?  But alas, it's the Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge over the Potomac (Highway 301).  What a "nice" bridge!

We are beginning to see some of the beautiful homes along the way...can't wait to see Mt. Vernon from the water.

Our many THANKS go out to sailboat "Breezin" who we followed most of the way today - Breezin's Captain gave us wonderful and helpful information for tonight's anchorage in Mattawoman Creek.  We greatly appreciated his advice - it was 'right on'!

Interesting marker architecture...

Huge satellite dishes!

Ron tried to catch us more perch for dinner tonight, but the fish didn't cooperate.

Sunset at anchorage and no need for air conditioning tonight!

Our Canoe Neck Creek anchorage.

More friends...

An interesting sailboat docked nearby...

Looks like they are all out for their holiday swim!

The fisherman caught us some perch today, so we had a very nice, tasty, fish dinner tonight!

Interesting dock...

A "waterman" style boat...

September 1, 2013 Canoe Neck Creek Anchorage

Headed out this morning for a dingy ride to a nearby marina.

Ah yes, the glamorous cruising life...heat in the lower 90's, humidity in the 70-80% range, sun is glaring:  long sleeves, a hat, sunglasses, lifejacket...

Approaching another small creek...jellyfish are EVERYWHERE!

On our way to the Colton Point Marina for some supplies.  Personnel there were super nice!

Returning back to the "portable home" with some needed "provisions"

Good view of the 'back porch'!

A neighbor in the neighborhood!

August 31, 2014 Great Wicomico River to St Clements Bay - Canoe Neck Creek

Up and going...all these 'stakes' represent 'fish trap' locations...look carefully and you can see some of the fish nets just waiting for all those fish!

Another classic Chesapeake Bay lighthouse!

Ah yes, the Commander is indulging in a ceee-garrrr at ceeeee.  "Land ho!"

A little choppier today...

We're entering the Potomac River.  At its mouth, it is over six miles wide!  We're certain that General Washington did not make his famous crossing at this junction.

Approaching our anchorage for the night in Canoe Neck Creek...it's lovely.

August 30, 2013 Riverwalk Landing Marina, Yorktown, to Great Wicomico River

Up and going just a little after sunrise...

Smooth seas all day today...

We enjoyed our stay in Yorktown!

A friend to greet us!

More friends...

One big barge...

One of the classic lighthouses of Chesapeake Bay!

Lots of commercial traffic today.

Even an "MH" buoy!

Really smooth seas on the Chesapeake...

Coming into our anchorage...

Ingram Bay off Sandy Point...a beautiful anchorage.
