August 1 and 2, 2013 Outter Banks

Driving to the Outer Banks, seeing many farm produce stands along the way!

A visit to the Coinjock Marina.   A few days later, we tied-up at this marina.

Coinjock's 'directional' signage!

Spoke with some other "Loopers" at our Coinjock visit.

On our way to Kitty Hawk and the Outer Banks ("OBX")!

Many were walking a LARGE sand dune!

At the sand dune's peak!

Some people were 'boarding' down the dunes!
Looks like fun...even if you do get sand in your shoes!

But then, you can just leave your shoes behind!

Hotel and beach houses...after hotel and beach houses...after hotel and beach houses.

marshes abound for natural habitats...

Visiting the replica of the Elizabeth II, in a stop at Manteo.

Of course, we were   in "Dare" County!

The Elizabeth II's replica dinghy!

Always a wonderful woodworker, Ron shows off how to work a 'pedal lathe'.  The lathe was set up in a replica of a small, colonial village.

Leave it to a woman to show us how the pedal lathe is really done!

Ron in front of the actual size replica of Orville and Wilbur's "flying machine"!

This monument, in tribute to Orville and Wilbur Wright, sits atop the hill overlooking the field where they first succeeded with their four test flights, in Kitty Hawk/Kill Devil Hills.

Where their test flights occurred, the stones mark the first three "landings" of the four flights.

"X" marks the spot where Orville and Wilbur flight tested.

The fourth stone, in the far distance, marks where their fourth attempt to fly landed - concluding that they had now succeeded in proving that man could fly!

Orville and Wilbur's 'camp' -
replica buildings of where they lived and where they worked on building/repairing various parts of their flying machine.

Men of vision...

Kitty Hawk...just one of many places I had always wanted to see...to think that we were standing where Orville and Wilbur stood...

Auto'ing on a bridge over the Intercoastal Waterway.
