August 15, 2013 Coinjock, NC to Chesapeake, VA

Journeying from Coinjock Marina in NC, continuing up the ICW and crossing into beautiful Virginia!  Much barge traffic along the way!  We were fortunate to follow a barge through some of the bridge crossings.  We're now docked at the Atlantic Yacht Basin Marina in Chesapeake, VA - primarily to avoid some thunderstorms.  We've been blessed that good Woodcraft friends, Bill & Heather (owners of the wonderful Virginia Beach Woodcraft store), have been nearby and even lent us a car!

BIG barges!!

Solitude on the ICW.

Crossing the Currituck Sound...

We tossed them some stale pretzels, but they weren't interested either.

Smooth waters, but I think we're finally out of dolphin territory.  :-(

More beautiful homes along the way.

More marshes along the way...

More bridges along the way...

More trees along the way; and yes, we've noticed that just a few leaves are starting to turn.

Following a barge, but looking back on the bridge that we both just passed through.  The bridge tenders have been great along the way!

More 'stumps' along the way...

Behind the barge with the friendly and helpful tug Captain!

We followed a bit distance behind the barge,  because the 'current' produced by the barge was strong and kept Captain Ron on the wheel as we 'danced' back and forth.

Getting closer...

Passing through a railroad bridge...

More stumps to watch out for...
